by | Oct 20, 2023

SNAP Flag Football is spurring a girls sports revolution in Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills, giving dozens of young women the opportunity to play together on the field while having fun and honing their skills. Founded amidst the COVID pandemic late in 2020, the rapidly-growing league has attracted over 150 players and gained immense popularity among aspiring female athletes such as Victoria Michajoyszyn and Ella Scott. The motivating focus on inclusion and support has given these girls the chance to make invaluable connections and disciple one another, thanks to the dedication of league founder Genevieve Caffelli.

The Vision of Genevieve Caffelli

Genevieve Caffelli’s Vision for the SNAP Flag Football League

The SNAP Flag Football League is growing rapidly and making a big impact in Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills. The league, which was founded towards the end of the COVID pandemic, has attracted over 150 girls from first to 12th grade, with 11 teams in the younger age range and four new high school girls teams. SNAP Flag Football offers an opportunity for girls to play with and against each other, something that was lacking in other youth flag football leagues. It’s clear that Genevieve Caffelli’s vision for this all-girls league has been realized and continues to inspire young female athletes.

Victoria Michajoyszyn, a nine-year-old player in the league, is thrilled with the new opportunity and excited to keep improving her skills. Similarly, Ella Scott, an 11-year-old teammate, expresses her admiration for the sense of community that SNAP Flag Football has created.

With pride, she states, “When anyone scores a touchdown or any points, everyone knows that it’s not just that person who did all the work; everyone did a part of the play.” The NFL has also taken notice and is implementing their own initiative to spread the love of the game to more young girls: the Females and Flag Initiative. Edie Cohen, an 11-year-old player in the league, encourages her friends to join the league and experience the same joy she does.

The girls enjoy playing against the boys’ teams because they are really good and can crush them!
Girls of all ages from Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, and beyond can join in on the fun; more information is available online at snaptivities.com.
